An incident at work yesterday had to be the most intersting bit ever to happen there... at least to me anyway. I was talking with my Trainee about nothing in particular when two women poked into the store and asked if we had served a customer recently. The mall, having been completely deserted, was dead beyond dead. We said no and they proceeded to say that some guy just stole a bottle of wine off our little cart in the doorway. I looked out our side door, saw him turn the corner and instructed Trainee to call security, I then proceeded to run after him.
Now some of you might think this was a stupid idea and I could have no way of knowing if he was the desperate sort, but I just ran after him without thinking. Now I come up about 10 feet behind him and shout "Hey Asshole!" (why, i don't know...) and he stops and turns around. This is the short conversation that ensued:
me: gimme that!
him: hands it over looking totally depressed
me: come with me!
him: no, i'm not going to jail for this
me: then why did you do it?
him: 'cause i have issues
He then walked away and I went back to the store (probably not a good idea to turn my back on him. there wasn't a soul around and we were near a loading dock on the side of the mall... you could easily hide a body there *shudder*) triumphantly holding my bottle of wine. After much thought about this little "adventure", I have come to realize that I should have never run after him in the first place and that putting my life in even the tiniest amount of danger isn't worth the $15 bottle I managed to recover.....
